TomTom GO300The TomTom GO 300 is the least sophisticated of “GO” range however, it exemplifies TomTom’s marketing of a GPS navigation device which is simple to install and operate, you simply turn it on and go. The unit has Tom Tom easy to use, Linux based navigation software controlled with the touch screen. For GPS signal reception the GO 300 has a 12 channel integrated GPS receiver.

TomTom’s Go line has already made a big splash in navigation, and the Tomtom 300 is a fantastic choice for people on a budget looking for no-hassle, one-step GPS. There’s nothing to load, since complete U.S. maps come preloaded on the included SD Card. The touchs creen navigation makes it a snap to plan customized routes or choose other options.

The TomTom GO 300 makes maximum use of the touch screen interface with the only button being for power - all other functions controlled through the touch screen menus. A nice feature is the speed-linked volume which varies the output volume in relation to the vehicles speed.

Maps of the USA and Canada pre-installed on the 1 Gb SD card so the unit is ready for use out of the box. TomTom recommends that owners create an account on the TomTom Web site so that they can be notified to download map updates.

Bluetooth Wireless Technology

The TOMTOM 300 is Bluetooth wireless technology enabled however, it is only for data connectivity with a PDA or for use with a GPRS or 3G enabled phone for accessing TomTom’s Plus service for traffic or weather reports. It does not have hands-free phone call capability.

The TomTom GO300 connects to your power outlet via a typical cigarette lighter cord and turns itself on automatically as the power is switched on. It also turns itself off when there is no power. You can override this and the built-in Lithium battery will run the unit for 3 to 4 hours.

Generally the screen displays easily understandable Icons with descriptive text so there is
little doubt about what each one of those icons does. Even relative novices can manage a trip without any trouble.
